My Contribution- Article: How Asymptomatic or Pre-symptomatic People are Spreading the Coronavirus

In Katherine Harmon Courage’s article, she looks at new emerging facts and studies about asymptotic hosts of Covid-19 and evaluates their contribution to the spread of the virus.

Long Term Thinking- Article: Government Policy & The COVID-19 Pandemic

The article tries to answer the question: “What actions, if any, should governments take in response to the COVID-19 pandemic?” The authors respond by addressing what it would be like if the government took no control and the only benefit for an individual to not go out was to avoid getting sick themselves and may result in private businesses choosing to work at home.

Long Term Thinking- Article: How the World Cities are Fighting COVID-19 and their Preparedness Plans 

A major issue with cities is that they intensify the spread and transmission of disease due to the close quarters and often pandemics emerge on the outskirts of cities.

Cities play a major role in preparation for controlling outbreaks. This article highlights what characteristic plays a role for a well-prepared city versus a not as well-prepared city.

This article is written by two Scholars Dr. Rashawn Ray and Dr. Fabio Rojas and it describes the inequalities in society during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Additionally,  this link provides access to many scholarly articles on various topics involving inequality during the pandemic. In this annotated bibliography, this synopsis is focused on the first one, however, there are many articles on a variety of topics.

Both/And Mentality- Article: The COVID-19 Pandemic & Both/And Outlook

Justin Lioi describes that “Both And” thinking is an alternative way of thinking than the “Either-Or” mentality that most people have grown up with and can actually be quite limiting. The main points he uses to describe the benefit of using the “Both And” mentality: Positive thinking can do more harm than good, and being a realist who’s not a pessimist during COVID-19.

Interconnectedness- Article: The Pandemic's Impact on Climate Change

In this article, Dr. Simon Evans uses evidence to summarize how the coronavirus crisis has impacted energy use and CO2 use around the world. He predicts that the coronavirus crisis could trigger the greatest fall in CO2, even bigger than periods of war or previous economic crisis. Even with the huge drop in CO2 emissions, Dr. Simons reassures his readers that this is nowhere near enough to bring the 1.5 degrees celsius global temperature limit within reach.

Interconnectedness- Article: Connections Between the Coronavirus Pandemic and the World's Food Supply Chain

Amy Gunia explains how the pandemic is disrupting the global food supply at nearly every level and could have a devastating impact on food security throughout the world. Due to the fear and labor restrictions, harvests are going to waste around the world. Gunia warns that the current restrictions have the potential to cause food shortages in the future.

Mindfulness- Article: Wellness and Activity during Sequestration and Shelter-in-Place

This article was collaboratively written by Alder University’s students, faculty, and staff and to promote staying healthy mentally and physically during the Covid-19 pandemic. This article works as guidance and provides tips for staying well. There are three main guidance tips in the article: “Challenging Each Other to Stay Active”, “Encouraging Motivation and Mindfulness”, and “Sharing Tips for Staying Active”.

Based on their genomic sequencing analysis, Kristian Andersen, PhD, an associate professor of immunology and microbiology at Scripps Research and his collaborators concluded that the most likely origins for SARS-CoV-2 are from one of two scenarios.

Madukar Pai predicts that after the pandemic global health will become more popular and attract more people to the fields of public health epidemiology, infectious disease, and data science.  Additionally, Pai discusses the negative fallout the pandemic will bring on our economy and health care systems and fears that development assistance will be cut as a result.

Implications of COVID-19 on Public Health

In this article, Lauren Barredo provides gives an outline of the interview and introduces the panelists. At the end of the article, she attached the four-hour 24-minute video presentation in which experts gathered to discuss the ramification of COVID-19 on public health and the Sustainable Development goals.

David Muldrow Beasley addresses the worsening situations in for the people living in conflict zones. He addresses the seriousness of the situation by reflecting on his work with the World Food Program (WFP). The WFP donates food to almost 100 million people and some 30 million people rely on this source of food to stay alive. If the WFP is no longer able to reach these people, they estimate that 300,00 people will die every day for the next three months!

This is a 21-page policy brief evaluating the impact of COVID-19 on women. The policy brief is broken down into different sections, entitled introduction, economic impacts, health impacts, unpaid care work, gender-based violence, and conclusion.
